The two main types of tooth discoloration are internal and external, both of which are aesthetically displeasing. It is crucial to determine the cause of the discoloration, this will lead to the most predictable and aesthetic outcome.

This lecture is designed to enlighten practitioners on the most predictable and effective ways to manage the various tooth discolorations. The two main types of tooth discoloration are internal and external, both of which are aesthetically displeasing.  It is crucial to determine the cause of the discoloration, this will lead to the most predictable and aesthetic outcome.

Dr Jason La will discuss the different causes of internal tooth discoloration. From an endodontic perspective, internal discoloration can be managed with root canal treatment and followed by the “Walking Bleach Technique”. Jason will discuss this evidence-based procedure which will produce effective results and can be applied to general practice.

Dr Paul Gorgolis will discuss the various options available to manage external tooth discoloration. Such treatment modalities include at-home bleaching, micro-abrasion and in-office bleaching. Paul will investigate and discuss the most effective options for your patients.

At the end of the lecture participants will:

Be able to identify and diagnose the type of tooth discoloration

Understand how to manage internal and external discoloration, with various tips and tricks

Have a thorough understanding of the materials involved with teeth whitening

Appreciate the potential risks and complications

Dr Paul Gorgolis is a general practitioner currently in private in Wembley Downs. He is a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. In London, he developed the UK’s first multi-disciplinary general and specialist practice where patients could be comprehensively managed and treated “under one roof”. Dr Gorgolis is an experienced clinician who co-runs hands-on ceramic courses for the ADAWA and has been a lecturer and tutor to dental students at the UWA and The University of Adelaide.

Dr Jason La is a Specialist Endodontist. After five years of general dentist practice in his hometown of Canberra, Jason’s interest in Endodontics led him to complete his specialist training at the UWA Dental School. Jason has a passion for teaching and has been invited to lecture for the Australian Society of Endodontology in Perth and at his undergraduate dental school; La Trobe University. In his final year, he was the first ever post-graduate student to receive the Overall Most Outstanding Tutor Award for the Doctor of Dental Medicine program.
