Rapid antigen testing in your practice

Introducing a RA Testing Staff Practice Policy is a reasonable measure to control the risk of COVID transmission in your practice.

There is no formal guidance on the application of RA Testing in dental practice.

Not everyone with COVID-19 will display symptoms. As part of your overall individual practice COVID risk assessment, you may wish to introduce RA Testing as a screening initiative for symptom-free staff, and possibly your patients. Importantly, RA testing does not replace any of your practice COVID risk-aversion strategies and risk-management principles.

Further consideration of introducing RA Testing to your practice will become increasingly relevant to you, as WA heads towards high COVID caseload settings.

Under WA’s updated Transition Plan there are new COVID-19 protocols in place, with:

  • New close-contact definitions
  • New testing and isolation protocols
  • The casual contact definition will cease

RA Testing has the potential to boost confidence amongst your dental team. Introducing a RA Testing Staff Practice Policy is a reasonable measure to control the risk of COVID transmission in your practice.

The decision to introduce a policy should be an all-of-practice decision based on every staff member’s understanding of the practice’s overall COVID risk minimisation strategy.
