This is a 3-day course provided on 2 weekends (Saturday and Sunday) that offers the opportunity to receive close guidance on technical and clinical skill tasks included in the ADC practical examination. Task demonstrations are provided, and all sessions are supervised by experienced tutors who will provide individual feedback to participants. This course is suitable for candidates who are already familiar with the practical assessment through other courses or may have unsuccessfully sat the ADC practical examination in the past.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course participants are expected to have skills in:

  • Following infection control protocol in the clinical dental setting;
  • Applying concepts of cavity preparations influenced by the extent of caries and choice of restorative material;
  • Restoration of teeth with composite resin and amalgam to original anatomy, including complex amalgams and composite restorations;
  • Applying concepts of crown preparations and temporization for full-coverage indirect restorations’
  • Performing of endodontic access cavity on supplied plastic posterior tooth;
  • Taking intraoral radiographs using variety of techniques and holders;
  • Applying fissure sealant;
  • Administrating local anaesthetic;
  • Placing tofflemire matrix band;
  • Placing rubber dam;
  • Extracting teeth;
  • Using hand instruments in periodontal debridement.

Class IV composite

Clinical skill tasks (OSCE)

Periodontal debridement

LA - Inferior alveolar block and local infiltrations
Matrix band retainers
Rubber dam isolation

Dr Amit Gurbuxani is the Immediate Past President of ADAWA, a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the UWA Dental School and a General dentist working in private practice.

Dr Victor Matsubara is a Senior Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry and Chair of Teaching and Learning at the UWA Dental School. He also works in private practice.
